According to a Reuters report, two Democratic members of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, Elizabeth Warren and Andy Kim, have sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent requesting a review of a transaction involving a UAE entity's acquisition of a stake in a Trump family cryptocurrency firm. A company affiliated with the UAE's national security advisor purchased a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for $500 million. The two senators are calling for an investigation into whether this transaction poses national security risks. Warren and Kim have requested that Bessent, who heads the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), determine whether a CFIUS review is required for the UAE's acquisition of the 49% stake in World Liberty Financial. If a review is necessary, they urge that it be a comprehensive, thorough, and impartial investigation. They have demanded that Bessent respond to several questions by March 5, including whether CFIUS has reviewed the transaction in any form or submitted any recommendations to President Trump. The senators noted that the transaction raises significant national security concerns, including the possibility that the UAE or other nations could gain access to the "sensitive personal information" collected by World Liberty Financial.
